About Us

A move from Saint Paul, MN, to Milwaukee, WI, prompted us to take the biggest step of our lives and open an escape room of our own. Together, our knowledge covers every aspect of the business, from creating puzzles and constructing rooms to managing employees and handling day-to-day affairs. We are passionate about what we do and have the drive and determination to achieve our goals!

OWNERS

Nick is a former high school math and computer science teacher whose love of games and puzzles led him to take on a part time job at an escape room in Saint Paul.  He took on more and more responsibilities at that escape room, and eventually left teaching to become their General Manager.  At that point he took on all day to day operations of the business, and even applied his skill sets to assist in puzzle design and development, as well as programming some of their electronic puzzles.

Allen has a degree in video game design and development, and was a tech artist at a casino game company until early 2020.  He was hired part time at the same escape room as Nick in Saint Paul, where his creative problem solving and attention to detail landed him the company’s next and only other full time position.  His unique role grew and evolved over time, with responsibilities ranging from prop repairs and room construction, to electronics wiring, graphic design, and more.

Tyler has a Master's degree in physics but works in the field of Software Quality Assurance. In grad school, he worked on writing programs to control machines in a lab on campus. These days, he writes programs to automate manual tasks and interfaces to easily interact with data for software testing. He uses his software engineering skills to design and implement code, making the incredible puzzles at Redacted work.

REDACTED Escape Rooms is a fully LGBT owned business.

We have a combined 10 years of experience running, managing, and building escape rooms.

Updates

I’m going to start with a few quotes for this update:

“Success is sweet and sweeter if long delayed and gotten through many struggles and defeats.”
— Amos Bronson Alcott

“The trees that are slow to grow bear the best fruit.”
— Moliere

It’s quotes like this that put things into perspective.  We acknowledge that we are behind schedule compared to our original plans, but progress is being made daily.  We have had some people come in and check out our location.  They have noticed the improvements and have been impressed with everything we are doing here.  Unfortunately, our plan of making this escape room one of the best in the Milwaukee area takes time.  We don’t accept shortcuts and will continue working until everything is perfect.  We are also adhering to our No Padlock Promise, which makes creating the room more challenging, but also makes the experience much better for you!!  As we see the room coming together, we are even more excited about what the final product will look like.  For every puzzle we have been implementing, it keeps turning out way better than I ever dreamed of in my head.

In May, we moved out of Phase 1, which involved constructing all the major items.  The most significant and challenging parts are all set up and working well.  We also secured additional funding through WWBIC to keep things progressing, as our lease payments must continue despite our current lack of revenue.

In Phase 2, we are working on installing all the tech and smaller construction items.  We ended up taking a step back and made PCBs for all of our tech in the room.  This should help us reach the finish line more quickly!  We have been successful in testing and have 3D printed some great props and puzzles.  In the picture, you will see our wiring for one of the puzzles.  It may look crazy, but if you look a bit deeper, you will notice the organization and effort that went into it.  Through these wires, we have successfully connected 18 RFID readers, all of which communicate with each other through our custom-made software.  It’s really exciting to see the speed of progress in Phase 2, as things are changing daily!

We hope to complete everything by the end of the month, with testing starting in August. We appreciate everyone’s continued support and will continue to send updates as we approach our opening date.

I promise, it will be well worth the wait!!

~Nick
